Key Information

Summary

The Old Quarry is a log cabin in Somerset. Nestled at the foot of the Brendon Hills, it lies close to the stunning Exmoor National Park. It is set within its own third of an acre of woodland. This comes complete with birds, squirrels, rabbits and the occasional, inquisitive deer. It’s a secluded, almost magical location and yet, not cut off. Only half a mile away is the small and delightful town of Wiveliscombe. This makes it the ideal retreat for getting away from it all, either to relax and unwind within the peace of the natural woodland or as the ideal base for a more active Somerset break. Check out our reviews and you’ll see that our guests agree, both adults and children alike.

Inside

Open Plan Living Space

The Old Quarry enjoys an open plan kitchen, dining and living space, complete with a wood-burning stove and heating throughout, making it a wonderfully warm and cosy place to stay throughout the year. Set further back, towards the rear of the cabin are three attractive bedrooms, a single, a twin and a double, which share a family bathroom, with modern fixtures and fittings. All the rooms are on the same level (there is a ramp outside to facilitate wheelchair access). Find out more about the accommodation itself.

Outside

Third Of An Acre Of Woodland Space

The veranda is a perfect place to relax on balmy summer evenings or you could try out the hammock. For those slightly chillier evenings, gather around the fire pit to toast some marshmallows whilst you admire the giant redwood tree that towers over the rest of the wood or, gazing even further up, enjoy the brilliance of a starry night. For outside dining, there’s a BBQ area with a wooden picnic table. There is also a swing and grassy area for which we provide a selection of outdoor games. Find out more more about the outside space.

Out And About

Wiveliscombe and the Brendon Hills
Exmoor Ponies

Close by, guests are able to make use of all-weather tennis courts and a seasonal open-air heated swimming pool (both have charges attached). The town actively encourages walkers to visit and it’s easy to see why, with some great walks right on the doorstep and it’s a popular area for cyclists too. Despite its size, Wiveliscombe is host to three breweries, one of which offers tours. There’s plenty more to do locally. Magical Exmoor is close by in one direction and the Quantock Hills in another and, being in the West Country, the coastline is never far away. Click here for more details about things to do locally.
