August 2025 – Clare, Glastonbury

“We’ve just returned from a wonderful week at the cabin and are already looking forward to coming back. It’s beautifully peaceful, full of rustic charm, and was very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was impressively well-equipped—even including a slow cooker—which made cooking easy. We especially loved the fully enclosed garden, which gave our autistic young son a safe space to play (with supervision, of course!) and gave us real peace of mind. There are plenty of great day trips within easy driving distance. Paul was quick to resolve a minor issue with the shower cord, and all communication was excellent throughout. Highly recommended for a relaxing family getaway in a stunning location.”
August 2025 – Laura, Market Rasen

“It’s a beautiful location and a cosy cabin. There was more available than we needed. They have literally thought of everything and the welcome folder covered everything you needed to know about the locate area. The cabin has a very personal and homey touch, a lot of amenities. Definitely more comfort here than a lot of hotels we’ve stayed in. Would love to stay here again!

“We had a fantastic week at the Old Quarry. it is a beautiful, peaceful location with amazing gardens and loads of wildlife. We enjoyed sitting and eating outside as well as an evening fire (everything was provided for one fire). It is a quick walk into Wiveliscombe with pubs, shops and takeaways. We used the cabin as a basis for exploring the Quantock Hills and it was a very convenient location. Rachel and Paul communicated proactively in advance giving us all the information we needed. Self check-in was easy. The Old Quarry was very clean and we had been left enough dishwasher tablets, toilet roll etc for the entire stay – along with some lovely scones, jam and cream! The information pack on walks and the local area was great. Highly recommend staying here!
July 2025 – Emma, Cambridge

“Thank you for a wonderful stay in your little piece of heaven! A perfect shady escape amongst the rocks and trees in this hot weather. So peaceful too. We visited the north coast, Exmoor and Lynmouth for the first time and Paul took a dip at Wivey Pool! We will be back – perhaps in the autumn when the heat has faded”
July 2025 – Paul, Burbage

Great place to stay, very private, beautiful views from all windows and great amenities. May 2025 – Kathryn, Leeds

Absolutely fabulous 4 night stay at this location. The surroundings are incredible and we loved the fact that there was so much nature around us. The kitchen is very well stocked (loved that there was a slow cooker). Beds are super comfortable and bedding was lovely too. The hosts left very clear instructions about everything (appliances, wi-fi, hot water, keys and check out etc). We had some early morning wake ups from the crows tapping on the windows with their beaks (but this just added to the magic of being around nature – and meant we made the most of the mornings with coffee on the decking). Great stay!
May 2025 – Amy, Daventry

“A great find. Appreciated all the thought put into helping our stay be the best. Having all the wildlife join us on the porch and around the swing was amazing – we have loved every minute – even the crows pecking the window at 5am!! Thank you”

2nd visit. Just as peaceful, calm, relaxing and picturesque as the first. Surrounded by wildlife with only the wind in the trees, the chirping of the birds, the sounds of Vince and the rustling of the squirrels with the occasional woodpecker. Have stayed nowhere else quite like it. And we love it. Thank you very much for the opportunity. Would love to return
March 2025 – Diarmuid, Warmley

March 2025 – India, Surrey

What a wonderful find! This log cabin is set in the most beautiful and private space, with the red quarry rock and wonderful redwood trees surrounding you. Its a real wildlife haven, we literally spent hours gazing out at our own ‘wildlife TV’. If you want to relax and kickback this is definitely the place to do it. Local town ‘Wivey’ is walking distance and has lots going on, friendly locals and great pubs/food. The cabin is really well equipped and feels really cosy and comfortable, we will definitely be returning next year!”

February 2025 – Michael, Poole

“Had a great stay. Awesome place. Thanks Rachel”
February 2025 – Alexander, Australia

“What we loved most were the trails behind the cabin. Without even going on the road, you can connect directly into awesome footpaths. Some near the cabin have gorgeous old yews, beeches, rhododendrons. Some go up the hills with great views. It’s also convenient being walking distance from Wiveliscombe’s town center which has some pretty nice shops. We appreciated how immaculately clean the cabin was. And it was totally private. A drawback is that the cabin is next to the main road that feeds Wiveliscombe from the west, and in the mornings especially there’s some noise from heavy vehicles. And the internet is slow and occasionally drops for a couple minutes at a time. But all in all we had a good month here.”
February 2025 – Zeb, London

We were so impressed : personalised directions; beautiful, peaceful cabin, lovely touches, log burner, comfortable beds and thoughtful offer of a late check out. We had an amazing stay and the cabin is far more than the photos demonstrate. Thank you! We will be back.”

Lovely cabin in a great location surrounded by trees. Great to see so many birds around the feeders. Everything you could need was catered for ( apart from the weather!). “We really enjoyed our stay at this cosy cabin. It’s one of the best equipped places we’ve stayed, with a lot of thoughtful touches, like cream tea and milk on arrival, torches in bedrooms, lots of plugs and hanging space, etc. All very well thought out and designed with care and creativity. The beds are really comfy, the fairy lights are cute and the outdoor space is lovely and private with giant ferns, little seating areas, a fire pit and swing. We saw lots of nature and it was a lovely base for walks in both Exmoor and the Quantocks. Thanks for a lovely stay!

“Thanks dudes! We are three middle aged men living a fake rock and roll lifestyle by renting a log cabin and bringing our guitars. The aim was to drink beer and make real music… We did exactly one of those things. Not the cabin’s fault mind you! We had a blast. Now back to our wives and children.”
October 2024 – Darren, Oxfordshire

September 2024 – Ena, Cheshire

“My wife and I took our twin 4 year olds to Paul’s cabin. It was a great stay, very private and beautifully maintained. The immediate surroundings were fantastic, private grounds with fire pit, bbq etc. Although it rained for us more or less 90 percent of the time, we still managed to use all of the above . Firing up the wood burner on an early autumn night was great and we all enjoyed waking up to the local wildlife at breakfast, namely Vince the pheasant and plenty of blue tits and robins.”

August 2024 – Liz, London

“We have had a great stay at The Old Quarry. All of us have enjoyed having such a quiet, relaxing and cool place (on a hot week!) to spend time in. The children enjoyed playing in the garden and spotting the birds, especially the pheasant! It was great to be able to let them explore on their own and know they were safe. My husband and I have watched bats flying about the quarry each night and a snuffling hedgehog visited twice. The owls were particularly noisy – perhaps young ones? The cabin has remained nice and cool in the high temperatures this week, which was good to come back to after exploring each day. It is very well equipped and we had everything we needed. Thank you very much. We hope to be back in the future.”
August 2024 – Alison, Whitehill

What a treat this place is! Loved the pheasant and the garden games. When the sun fell on the swing in the morning of the 11th it was paradise. Will always have fond memories of watching England beat the Dutch to make it into the Euro finals. Dunster Castle was magical as well – highly recommended

The wildlife was lovely and we enjoyed writing down what we had seen in the wildlife book. The cabin was lovely and the facilities. We have already said we will be returning. Thank you for a lovely stay :)”
May 2024 – Stu, Ashurst

Another lovely stay at the cabin and it just keeps getting better and better! A new kitchen since our last stay and a wonderful new door to make the little one’s bedtime that little bit easier! I saw four bullfinches in the bush this morning – not a sight that happens in Walthamstow – and a nice greater spotted woodpecker hopping about – yes, I have been reading the bird spotter’s guide provided. Having had a child since our last visit, our itinerary was slightly modified this time to include playgrounds and parks and shorter walks – thankfully a trip to the Bear Inn was still possible. The Old Quarry is as beautiful as ever, wonderfully clear of stinging nettles and brambles! (Ed: we make this our aim, but always seems to be a few steps behind!) A reparative enclave from the outside world! I don’t think I have ever heard so many birds – I don’t know what they are saying, but they sound pretty happy to me! Thank you Paul and Rachel and the cabin.”
May 2024 – Simon, Walthamstow

“We came here for the weekend – five friends getting together after a long time. This place is poetic; the ambience inside and outside of the house is perfect for such occasions. The birds coming and joining us now and then just added more flavour to the stay

We loved the surrounding woodland and watching the different types of birds and wildlife. The town of Wivey is quiet but perfect if you just want a little walk and a pub lunch. Would definitely recommend staying at the Quarry if you’re after a quiet weekend away.”
April 2024 – Samantha, Frome

“A very cosy and easy place to be immersed in nature. The weather wasn’t great (stormy) but didn’t affect our enjoyment of the cabin. I will be recommending it to all my friends!
April 2024 – Donna, Padbury

“We have had a lovely relaxed week! Despite the weather being a bit (a lot!) stormy! Loved the cabin and the woodland. The birds were a joy to watch. Had some great trips out to feed the alpacas at Stoke Wood, Dunster Castle and Tarr Steps. And great meals out at The Bear, the Anchor Inn and the Chapel Grounds Cafe, plus fish and chips from the Kingfisher. I really do hope we’ll be back. I know that whenever I feel I need to get away from it all, the cabin will be my first choice! Thank you for creating such a comfortable and cosy retreat.”
April 2024 – Donna, Padbury

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here and don’t really want to leave! It’s been cosy, comfortable and has everything we needed. Travelling with a 6, 4 and almost 1 year old in wet and muddy weather, I was particularly grateful to have a washing machine and a tumble dryer! We’d love to come back one day in the summer as the cabin seems very well equipped for warm weather activities. Our children loved the swing, exploring the area around the cabin and the fairy lights! It’s been so nice being able to cook dinner while being able to watch them play outside. Really idyllic. Thank you for the scones too – that was a lovely surprise! Also really appreciated the thoughtful/helpful notes dotted around on various items in the cabin. We hope to come back soon! Thank you Paul and Rachel!”
April 2024 – Jeff, Clapham

“We had an absolutely magical time at The Old Quarry. Paul was a wonderful host and gave really helpful instructions before we arrived. He also helped us out during our stay with a quick response to my message to him about how to best adjust the shower to get the right temperature. We loved sitting and watching the birds feeding outside the windows: nuthatch, greater spotted woodpecker, coal tits, plus the usual garden birds and a very confident pheasant called Vince! It was a short walk down the hill to the town where we enjoyed shopping for local items in the Wivey Larder. Lots to do within easy driving distance, whatever the weather. We had a rainy day in the Fleet Air Arm Museum, a glorious day biking and walking on the Quantocks, and then on the way home we stopped off at Glastonbury Tor and Shepton Mallet Prison“.

“This has been the perfect start to our Easter break! We arrived on Friday night to the cottage beautifully equipped and we loved waking up the following morning to the sounds of all the birds, especially the woodpeckers. We took a trip over to the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum on Saturday as the weather wasn’t quite right to explore the gorgeous countryside. The souvenir guide is in the spotty box if you fancy going – there’s plenty to see, including Concorde. Once we arrived back home (we) pootled into Wiveliscombe, but were caught out that the Wivey Larder closes at 1:30. It just meant we had to go back to buy sweets and pastries another day! Sunday’s weather was just perfect for getting out to the Quantocks and, while 3 explored on bikes, 2 did a lovely walk over the ridge. Everyone enjoyed seeing the ponies and the views were lush. The boys were glad to see the ice-cream man at the end of their ride too. As we prepare to leave (off to Shepton Mallet Prison for an escape room experience there), we have been able to enjoy this lovely space and quality family time. We’ve all very much enjoyed looking out for Vince and all the other wildlife and our boys loved the swing. While the weather was not conducive to a firepit and marshmallows and smores, it just means we’ll have to come back again. Thank you!”

“A tranquil and welcoming stay in a delightful cabin. Surrounded by the wildlife that greets you every morning. A joy to return to after long walks. Highly recommended.”
March 2024 – Diarmuid, Warmley

“There are many words you can use to describe this place. All have their own meaning and importance to the individual concerned. For me, tranquil, serene, relaxing and unwinding sum up our feelings. It isn’t just the escape to a quiet place that is special, but the immediate access to the Quantocks, Exmoor and the many other walks that can be enjoyed. The location at the cabin, surrounded by wildlife; that stillness in the air; that peacefulness, all giving a complete mindfullness (experience). I would highly recommend this to anyone to experience for themselves”

“We had an amazing weekend staying at The Old Quarry. Such a lovely, secluded cabin with all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. Lots of useful info and instructions allowed for a hassle free break. Everything was perfect.”

“A lovely and relaxing place for us all to be together, eating, drinking and laughing. What an absolutely stunning place!! I’m never lost for words, but am now.”
March 2024 – Lesley, East Lyng

“A tranquil short break, perfect for two friends wanting to escape the dullness of adult life! Firstly, with great directions provided by Paul, we found The Old Quarry with ease. At first glance, we knew we’d be happy here. We immediately set our bags down to explore the place. We were soon rushed away to spend the evening snuggling ‘Man’s Best Friend’ at the Golden Retriever Experience, Minehead. With it being so close, The Old Quarry was the perfect location for our stay; nice and private, quiet, yet with easy access to the surrounding areas. The detail provided in the information book provided meant that we had near to no issues with anything during our stay. However, apparently neither of us are capable of successfully igniting a log burner (we may need a lesson or two for next time, Paul). We will for sure be returning when the weather picks up to explore more of what The Old Quarry has to offer in its outdoor space as well as the surrounding areas. Thank you so much! PS// the scones were a lovely touch – we must return the favour with something that everyone loves; a Malteser bunny! :)”

“A wonderful weekend away as a surprise for my 74th birthday arranged by my lovely children. Couldn’t control the weather, but we all had a great family time; not to be forgotten. The wildlife is something you could spend all day watching. Lodge was great; been before and will be back I’m sure.”
February 2024 – Lisa, Wellington

Lovely cabin in a great location. Nice to find a quiet countryside retreat that isn’t too far from a small village! Very clean, well kept & comfortable cabin.”

“A perfect, peaceful break so close to home! Thank you for an amazing time and your fab garden has provided lots of inspiration for new paintings! One of the best places we’ve stayed. Will be back again.”
February 2024 – Jack, Norton Fitzwarren

Amazing hosts, super friendly and very helpful. Although they were always contactable, they left easy follow instructions around the place and in the welcome pack. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty utensils and things, even a cafetière! Lots to do in the cabin with games indoor and outdoor. We even set up the volleyball net. Lots of nature to watch from all the windows and a beautiful family of pheasants. We had lunch in the local town which was an easy walk too. I would recommend this cabin over and over. 10/10 everything.”
February 2024 – Sophie, London

“Thank you for providing wonderful accommodation for a much needed break away for a very special birthday! We enjoyed every peaceful moment. And the notes were banging!
February 2024 – Sophie, London

“The cabin is located in a lovely, peaceful setting and we spent a week using the cabin as our base. Although we were mostly away from the cabin during the days (we were celebrating my husband’s birthday with friends and family), it was a lovely and very cosy cabin to return to in the evening. We would highly recommend the cabin for a relaxing getaway and would love to return one day!”
January 2024 – Catarina, Cambridge

Great value for money had a lovely stay!”
January 2024 – Stephanie, Chudleigh

“A long-awaited break designed to unwind, and this gave us everything we wanted and more! A wonderful base from which to explore the countryside on foot. We enjoyed many walks – some from here and some a short drive away. Having so much flora and fauna and bird life on our doorsteps gave us so much peace and joy – those birds and squirrels eat a lot! Sneaky squirrels also climbing the rhododendron to fly at the bird feeding post to scrounge seeds and nuts! Lovely local produce and great conversations in the village shops. We will definitely come back again and recommend The Old Quarry to our loved ones. It’s also so very well equipped lots of little details that we noticed and really appreciated. Thank you!”

“The most quiet beautiful place, perfect break after a crazy Christmas. This is the perfect relaxing break the cabin has everything you need from games to touches. From wildlife to a small village 5 min walk. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts they decorated the cabin for our friends 50th birthday and it was beautiful. The cabin is so cosy and warm, it’s like being in a different world. The cabin is perfect for many different breaks, it would also be lovely for a family break there is so much to see outside the cabin birds, squirrels, rabbits and much more which children will love seeing and exploring. There is also a lovely swing attached to a tree and a picnic area and barbecue area for families to have their meals outside and enjoy this surroundings. The cabin is also very romantic and is perfect for a couple to go. Enjoy a quiet break. When we arrived at the cabin we had the most amazing jam scones cream and milk waiting for us”

“We came for a birthday weekend for a friend as a group of women. The lodge was everything we hoped and more. Beautiful, tranquil setting. We could all relax and unwind. Spent hours sitting, bird watching. The hosts had been so thoughtful and helpful. Loved the scones they left (so much so we all bought a jar of chuckleberry jam in the village). It was a friends’ 50th birthday and Paul and Rachel were so wonderful putting up decorations we sent; made it even more magical. None of us wanted to leave and would love to return. Thank you!”

“Thanks for a super relaxing stay in an amazing spot. The cabin was fantastic with lots of lovely little touches. We will be returning hopefully when the weather is a little better so we can use the fire pit and enjoy the surroundings a little more.”
January 2024 – Michelle, Birmingham

“We arrived for a 5-day stay. The Lodge was set in its land, a beautiful place with fairy lights on, early evening it looked very homely. Inside was very well presented clean and tidy. We had a great stay with the outdoor feeling. It was in a tranquil place surrounded by trees. Would recommend this. However, the internet could do with some attention.”
December 2023 – Omar, Taunton

“We absolutely loved our stay. The cabin was so cosy for our annual Christmas get together with our young children. They absolutely loved the outdoor area, particularly the swing! It was -4⁰ during our stay but the cabin stayed warm and we all loved the cosy vibes! Everything was as described and arriving was made so easy with Paul’s detailed info sent a couple days before. The children are already asking when we are going back!”
December 2023 – Terri, Cornwall

Absolutely fantastic accommodation, secluded peaceful and cozy. The kids thoroughly enjoyed exploring the cabin and surrounding woodland (fabulous place to play with their dinosaurs) As parents it was cozy, comfortable, clean and a highly enjoyable unwind and relaxation time with the kids. Well thought out facilities and everything you would need for a relaxing getaway! Superb!”

“Our stay was very warm and welcoming. Paul was very attentive host and have made our stay truly enjoyable and positive. The cabin itself was very well equipped and warm in November! We felt safe and enjoyed the nature escape. The birds and the clotted cream/jam were a delightful touch. Will be recommending the clotted cream and cabin to friends and family! Thank you Paul and Rachel! We look forward to experiencing the cabin in the summer
November 2023 – Greta, London

Ideal location for a relaxing break. Got there a little early and was allowed in. The Old Quarry is exactly what you need if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives. The wildlife is both entertaining and beautiful to watch. Loved the little touches inside and the cream tea was what was needed to start the holiday after a long journey. Would recommend the The Old Quarry for a short or long stay.”
November 2023 – Pearl, Wilnecote

So peaceful and relaxing. The wildlife was amazing. We thought we heard a woodpecker until we noticed the blue tits eating some bugs from the cabin. Watching the blue tits on the bird feeders was entertaining. My 89 year old Dad was very impressed with the squirrels’ antics around the cabin. Everything that was needed for a relaxing holiday was here. Paul and Rachel thought of everything. Cream teas were a lovely thought. Thank you for everything”

“I had a wonderful experience at The Old Quarry with 4 friends. Paul was very friendly and easy to contact. The cabin went above and beyond our expectations – even with 5 of us it felt spacious and comfortable while being cosy and providing all we needed for an autumnal escape (the wood burner being a highlight)! The surroundings are beautiful and the addition of the outdoor fire pit and swing made it even more magical. There were some lovely walks from the cabin and the town is very cute too! A great experience.”

Wonderful family retreat. Cabin had everything we needed and more. The little welcome touches were great and Paul’s pre-arrival instructions were spot on. Just a great getaway location for a family of 5.”

“We came here to celebrate our 39th Wedding Anniversary after an incredibly sad few years (we both lost parents). It is the most calming, I would say even spiritual place to stay. There is something very special about this cabin, its location. We walked down the muddy track to the town and back along the road. Motorists were incredibly aware and courteous to us (not used to this, living in Manchester!) We visited Watchet, which had breathtaking views from the B3190. It’s a beautiful little town; shops, eateries and a fossil beach. Visited Sheppy’s Cider Farm; great visit, something for all the family. Thank you Paul and Rachel for all your hard work, thought and care in making The Old Quarry cabin such a special place to stay.”
October 2023 – Aprille, Manchester

Three of us had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the spotless and comfortable Old Quarry. We were so glad to have a washing machine and drying machine because we all fell over sliding down a muddy country walk! Not clever but very funny, particularly as one of us had only one set of clothes and was going to a party! We highly recommend staying here. It was well equipped and so peaceful; delightful having a wood burning stove and lovely to sit and observe the quantities of birds. The other good thing was that Paul answered queries immediately. Thank you – an excellent stay.
October 2023 – Clare, London

“We couldn’t have asked for a nicer time here, it was truly everything we wanted and more. My friend and I came for a writing retreat and it was the absolute perfect location: private, peaceful, and Paul very kindly hid the wifi password from us so we could have a total tech detox. We spent our days sat on the porch watching the myriad birds, squirrels, and handsome Mr Pheasant as we wrote. The cabin itself has everything you could possibly want, as well some kindly included treats. We enjoyed walking down into the village each day (usually to buy more crisps and wine – the writing essentials), and had some lovely walks in the surrounding area. I’ve stayed in many airbnbs and this has been my favourite so far. We had an amazing time and are already planning to come again next year!”
