Opening the double French doors at the front of The Old Quarry, you step outside onto a comfortable veranda to the sound of bird song. There’s a hammock in the garden to flop into and feel your cares drift away in the open air. There’s a rope and log swing too, enjoyed by adults and children alike.
A Place To Play And Eat
All the family can enjoy the selection of garden games we provide for you, with badminton and volleyball available to play on the grassy area as well as boules and quoits. Children in particular might relish the opportunity to build a den (under the yew tree seems to be a particularly favourite spot to try this) and are sure to love toasting marshmallows around the fire pit. A purpose-built BBQ and picnic area complete the options for eating outside.
A Place Full Of Nature
If you just prefer to enjoy all that nature has to offer at The Old Quarry, you won’t be disappointed. There’s plenty to see, from a towering giant redwood tree to the tiniest of wild flowers. With abundant flora comes fauna. Squirrels can always be spotted playing in the trees and rabbits too can be seen with fair regularity and it is not infrequent that a guest will open their curtains in the morning and see graceful deer foraging in the undergrowth.
We make a particular point of encouraging bird life to The Old Quarry and you’ll arrive to find the bird table stocked up, giving you plenty of opportunity to watch the many varieties at work and play whilst forest bathing. Stunning pheasants and partidges parade proudly around, whilst nuthatches perform gymnastics. Bird song provides the aural backdrop and perhaps the most special is hearing the occasional hoot of the owls who nest nearby.
